Guttering and upvc guttering replacement

The Benefits Of UPVC Guttering

No matter what the reasoning is behind a home renovation project, choosing superb products is always important. If the exterior of a building needs to be changed, there are many areas which can help to do this such as the guttering. When selecting guttering which is designed to last, not only will peace of mind be provided but there will be no chance of any repair bill occurring. Just like with any other item found in a home, there are multiple materials which guttering can be made out of such as UPVC.

UPVC guttering is not just perfect for residential properties but commercial and industrial buildings too. UPVC guttering is surprisingly affordable with no budget ever being exceeded when it is chosen. UPVC guttering is designed in such a way that it will never leak. This is very important because if a leak ever happens and is not noticed for a while, this could cause significant damage. Also, UPVC guttering can be bought in a multiple number of colours. Therefore, any UPVC guttering which is chosen will match what was previously installed with no redecoration required whatsoever.

UPVC guttering isn’t the only item which can help to protect a building but cladding can too. There is a wide selection to choose from with plastic cladding and this offers convenience to all of those who select this especially as the prices charged for plastic cladding are never expensive. Investing in plastic cladding also means that any repair bill which becomes evident will never materialise as a small investment has been made in helping to protect the building as a whole.

Choosing any of the aforementioned products can bring many advantages to a property, especially as the initial upfront cost will be minuscule in comparison to any amount which is needed to repair a property as a result of not picking UPVC guttering or plastic cladding.

The Importance of Maintaining your Chimney

A chimney’s function is to channel smoke upwards, out and away from our homes. We can often take for granted their importance and neglect the regular maintenance they need to ensure their build is kept intact, and their function met safely. Over time, the pointing of a chimney may split and the structure of its walls could develop cracks. After a period of 25 or 30 years, the mortar joints that bind the stone and brick will corrode; resulting in a flaking and cracking of the joints, leaving the pointing in need of repair.

What causes the cracks in my chimney? The cracks that materialise in the pointing of a chimney can often be explained by the natural process of freeze-thaw weathering. This process occurs when tiny amounts of water gather inside the smallest holes in the pointing. As the temperature falls overnight, the water freezes and expands. When the water melts, it leaves behind a larger space in the pointing for the next rainfall to seep into (and so the cycle continues). If left for too long without being repaired, the structure could become unstable.

Freeze-thaw weathering can also impair any metal object attached to the build of a property, such as a satellite dish.
What causes my chimney to leak?

Usually, the cause of a leak is defective flashings. These can be caused by:

Incorrect installation. Weathering. Lack of maintenance.

If left for a long period of time, any leaks will cause the walls of your home to become damp. If you find a leak, seek professional help as soon as possible for an emergency repair. Continue reading “Chimney Repairs”

bromley-emergency-roofer_optEmergency roofing repairs; when do they become necessary and what precautions can I take to prevent them in the future?

An emergency repair can become a necessary action when your roof has been damaged. Only when the damage to your roof requires a repair that needs to be fixed as soon as possible is when an emergency roofer is required. The slightest sign of damage to your roof could require an emergency roof repair and should be treated as an emergency. If you neglect these signs, any damage could quickly worsen and cost more to repair in the end.

Often, we assess what requires an emergency repair ourselves and too often we get this wrong. If a single loose tile on your roof becomes damaged, the possibility of it requiring an emergency repair is very real as it can be extremely dangerous. If your roof is not sealed, it is not fully protected against every day weather conditions.

There will be water leakages, and any strong winds could tear more loose tiles from your roof, possibly harming a passerby. Should you experience any problems with your roof, call a professional emergency roofer as soon as possible. Luckily, there are a few precautions you can put in place to maximise the protection of your roof in its constant battle against every day weather conditions and protect it from ever needing an emergency roof repair. The following actions are necessary to protect your property from a costly emergency roof repair in the future.

  • Check your roof. Look for any signs of damage that could require an emergency repair such as loose or missing tiles.
  • Check your chimney. All of the surrounding pointing should be intact with no holes or cracks.
  • Check your gutters. Neglected gutters are responsible for many of our emergency callouts. Often, these calls are being made due to gutters being faulty or blocked. You should clean and check your gutter at least once a year to avoid any blockages. If they are blocked, they could overflow and will cause your walls to dampen.
  • Get rid of any loose or unwanted TV and radio aerials. Continue reading “Emergency Roof Repairs”
